Accounting Assistant-AR


Summary Description

Perform clerical accounting duties including processing daily cash receipts, researching and applying receipts that are received into the lockbox, posting receipts and updating cash reports and assisting with AP data entry.  

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • On a daily basis, check the bank for direct deposits and lockbox deposits. Check lockbox and bank daily for deposits.  Print/save detail of payments.  Will work with bank and customer as necessary to determine correct application of cash.
  • Apply cash in CostPoint to appropriate invoice(s).  Determine appropriate outstanding invoice to apply cash.  Research unmatched and miscellaneous receipts.  Work with accountants as necessary to ensure appropriate application.
  • Prepare cash receipts tracking report daily. Enter daily receipts into Excel worksheet and provide to CFO, Finance Director and Controller.  Provide explanations of any unknown or miscellaneous receipts that cannot be verified to a specific customer.
  • Distribution of AR reports and adjustments. Distribute weekly AR reports to account reps and apply adjustments as verified and requested.
  • Accounting of small contracts as assigned. Create monthly invoices, accruals and provide analysis for contracts as assigned.

  • High school graduate or equivalency. 
  • Post high school education/training in accounting desirable.

Skills, Knowledge Abilities (SKA)             

  • Adaptability/flexibility required
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and external parties in a courteous manner
  • Detail oriented
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)


  • Professional with three or more years of experience in the accounting field
  • CostPoint experience helpful, but not necessary
